I’m happy to say that we finally managed to see Vera this week, our client after the bright coloured pink and purple wigs that I was working on a few weeks ago. Unfortunately her health had taken a turn for the worst following the beginning of her treatment, which had delayed her return to collect her wigs. While having a moment of relief from it, she was able to get in to see us and we were wowed by the results! The styles suited her really well and the cuts, tho in crazy colours, are going to be wearable which was the whole aim of this project. The vibrant pinks and purples fit wonderfully with Vera’s personality and wardrobe! Complimenting her famous rainbow gilet, setting her apart from the rest and helping her truly stand out from the crowd.

At the grand age of 79, I love her attitude and outlook on the whole experience and find her truly inspiring. When faced with hair loss of any sort, it is very easy to forever be worrying about what other people think and how other people see you, but with Vera’s attitude of, I shall wear what I want to wear and look how I want to look and the celebration of colour and style that she has chosen to go with, she shows us that actually this should not be about anyone else at all. Is is about you. The individual and how you feel about yourself. Anything that helps you to get through these times and make you feel better, grab on to it and do it for you. If you want to look how you always have, that is totally possible with our range of natural styles that we can tailor to you, if you want to embrace a change, then go for it! Anything is possible, have the hair you have always wanted. And if you want to have fun and go wild with it, then pinks and purples and any colour of the rainbow are also available to create your own individual style.

Wig Parties and Creative Styles

Here at Essex wig centre, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a wig for any occasion. Our usual customers come to us mainly through hair loss and chemotherapy, but we can also create you a wig for an event or a fancy dress party, hair pieces for nights out and weddings and period styling or creative up dos on your own hair too.

We recently took on a fun party of ladies going to an event where they needed to be styled in the style of the40s, 50’s and 60’s. As they all needed to be ready at the same time, Tammy, Tash and myself looked after one each and all worked on very different styles. Tammy created a Kylie style big and soft 1950’s roller set, while Tash worked on a full and bouncy 1940’s style blow dry and I used heated rollers and tongs to create a 60’s flick and mini beehive. It was a lovely afternoon of work and we do hope the ladies had fun at their event!

 

This weekend, a family party of mine was themed as a wig party. Each person wore a wig, any wig, so I thought I better make an effort! I styled an old wig of mine into a 1940’s inspired do, with victory rolls and a pageboy back, and another for my husband into a big back combed 80’s rocker style! For my 9month old, I crocheted her a hat and turned it into a cabbage patch wig as I didn’t want her to be left out! Other styles that turned up to the party included Elsa from frozen, Amy Winehouse, Cher and Cruella Deville!

Positively Pink…..

I was set an interesting challenge last week, to find three different wigs for one client, in pink and purple. She is looking for crazy colours in wearable styles.

A regular customer to the salon has recently began chemotherapy and has often worn her hair in wild colours. At the tender age of 79, she has decided that while wearing wigs through chemo, she wants to go back to her youth and have these colours again! She has a great, positive attitude towards the treatment and has a goal, which is to put on a banquet for all of her friends, for her 80th birthday next year, and to be well enough to cook all of the food herself. We have requested our invite already 😉

Our usual supplier doesn’t stock anything too out of this world so the challenge was set to find something in these colours, good enough quality to be able to work with and wear. So often wigs in the rainbow colours are very poor quality and fancy dress/joke shop looking. I managed to find a supplier who used a basic wig base, but they did look promising.

On arrival the wigs weren’t quite up to the standard I was expecting! The actual make up of them is ok, strong foundations and solid wefts, but they weren’t styled at all and had no shape or wearability to them at all.

 

 

 

I have worked very hard, cutting, setting, styling to turn them into three very different, but wearable styles and I think I’ve been successful. Vera definitely wanted a bob, and this one was the biggest challenge! In order to get a good enough quality wig, I needed to buy a very long style and cut it down. This was a team effort with Tash cutting in the main shape of the desired cut while I wore the wig, so we could see how it sat around shoulders, and me doing the setting and personalising service to get the right density and style. It’s paid off because the wig now looks great and although pink, it doesn’t look out of this world!

The other two styles were simpler to cut, but the sets were quite a challenge aiming to create wearable every day styles from wigs that are designed to be worn for Japanese Anime cosplay! However, they now look very demure and I’m very pleased with them. I’m really looking forward to seeing them on the lovely Vera.

Unfortunately she’s feeling very poorly this week, so not up to coming in to get her lovely wigs, but hopefully she will be feeling strong enough soon to come in and try them all on. We wish you better Vera and look forward to seeing you very soon.

Hair Angel From Above…..

Today was a very busy day in the Essex Wig Centre, back to back clients all day. Consultations, cut, set and redress services, wig sales and personalising cuts for numerous clients. I’ve met some lovely new clients and spent time with some of our wonderful regulars.

One of our regular customers to the salon, has been having her hair done with Pierre for over thirty years, has just recently found herself in need of a wig and has had a bespoke, custom made wig made for her by us. It has been sitting in our stock room since Christmas and tried on weekly while she’s been building her confidence to wear it. When I began working here, my first project given to me by Pierre, was to take the wig and do what I could and what was needed to get our lovely lady to a happy state where she is ready to wear the wig and take it home. I have spent a lot of time on it, getting it to a suitable density, getting the styling right and working on the shape to create a look that is comfortable to wear and realistic looking for the client. I am happy to say that today was the day she was ready to take it home! It is important to me to work with each individual and take care of individual needs in order to get the service just right. I will constantly strive to make sure each client goes away completely happy and want each one of you to feel fantastic in your wig. I am very happy that today was one of those days and after months of nerves, I have given someone the confidence to wear her wig with pride. We also talked through some further options that might work should she still not feel 100% confident with her wig going forward. We looked at the integration systems which would work very well for this individual and formed a back up plan for the future. She was so happy with the outcome today and all of the information she had to take away that she described me as her “Hair angel from above!” One of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my work and I felt so proud I just needed to share 🙂

Fun in the wig room…..

Hi all,

We have had a fun day in the wig room today. The team and I have worked together to shoot some of our stock pieces for they allergy which is soon to go live on our fabulous new website which will be up and running very soon.

Lisa, stylist in the main salon, was our model for the day and Tash, stylist, wig assistant and makeup artist, did the makeup for the shoot while I styled the wigs and took the photos. We took shots of 20 of our stock wigs and styled a few of them in different ways hoping to show a good range of what we have here, the excellent quality of the wigs and the versatility possible in styling your wig.

Bare in mind that these wigs show just some of what we can do. Each style is available in a wide variety of colours, hair qualities and with different bases. We can take each element of different wigs that you try to create a completely bespoke order too so you really can get the exact wig that you want. Obviously you can choose one that we have here too if we have something that you like! But the possibilities are endless in the one off design that we can create for you during our consultation process.

I have added a few snaps of some of our work from today, have a good look at the quality of the lace fronts that we have in stock and how realistic the fronts of the wigs can look. The long blonde is human hair, also showing the different hair types that we stock and showing you the difference in quality.

We have had a great day and it’s been lovely to see the wigs on and see how good they actually look! Hope you you like them as much as us!

Thought it would be good to let you all know a bit more about the consultation process here at Essex Wig Centre, so it is clear what kind of service you can expect when you come in to see us.

Firstly you will be bought into our state of the art private room, a fully equipped salon space housing everything we need for our consultation with the added bonus of being able to close the door and relax knowing that the general public will be out of view and your hair loss problems kept between you and I. We talk about your specific hair loss issue and discuss the best option for you, wigs, hair integration systems or total cover plus, an honest and professional opinion will be given regarding your choices, but ultimately the decision lies with you with which way to go.

If we are choosing you a wig, our stock allows us to find a shape and style that you like, and we have a vast range of styles to try to figure out the right colour for you too. We will talk you through how to prepare your hair and scalp to wear underneath your wig to ensure you are comfortable and we will try on as many as you need to to find the right one for you. We will then make a list of up to five wigs to order for you, with variations on colour and style to ensure we find the right one for you and your order will be placed. We will book you back in for a further appointment a week later to come and try on your personalised order.

When you choose your wig, we provide a personalising service where we can trim and style the wig to suit you specifically, giving you a bespoke look made just for you.

If you opt for a completely bespoke made wig, we will work out and take down the requirements of your order which will then take 12 weeks to process. You will come back after this time for your personalising service.

If you opt for a hair integration system, we will professionally choose the correct base and hair for you and place this order during your consultation. You will also be shown in depth the piece and the method used to make these work. Depending on your specific requirements, these can take only 10 days to process. More specific bespoke pieces can, again, take 12 weeks to arrive. Once again you will come in after this time for your fitting and personalising service. The first fitting will take up to 2 hours, then once a month we recommend a service and refit of the piece which will differ in time depending on what needs to be done.
